Urad dal powder/ flour is mostly used to make Indian snacks like Seedai , Murukku etc. It is a very simple process and can be made at home. It is definitely cost effective when compared to the ones sold in the stores..


Unlike the homemade rice flour, this can be made ahead and stored in air tight containers till needed.

Take the required quantity of Whole white Urad dal / Ulutham paruppu / Udhin bele and roast in a pan[without oil] till it turns light brown. Take care not to char the dal.Roast on medium heat. Once done,spread on a plate and let it cool.

Grind to a powder. Sieve and grind once again. Once again spread the powder on a plate for a while and then store in air tight containers or use immediately as required…
