Winter makes me crave for something hot and spicy.Though I usually prefer milder stuffs, the cold climate does change my preferences. But the thought of stepping into the kitchen is so miserable that the only thing that cheers me up to cook a quick meal in the beloved microwave.

One noon, when I was in need of a ‘spice fix’, I looked around and found this spicy pulao in tarla’s website and it tempted me to prepare it immediately. I used the regular rice, but Basmati rice will give a better visual appeal.

I paired it up with another easy breezy side dish- Aloo Raita .

Here is the recipe…

1.Wash and soak 1 cup rice for 15 minutes

2.Meanwhile,grind 4 red chillies, 1″ piece ginger, 2 cloves garlic, 1 tablespoon cumin-coriander power with a little water.Melt 1 teaspoon ghee [microwave for 30 seconds] and put in the ground paste.Microwave for 1 minute.

3.Drain the rice and add to the the bowl with the spicy paste.Add 1 cup peas[I used frozen],1/2 a cup chopped carrot,1 tablespoon thick curd, salt.

4.Add 2 cups water and mix well.

Microwave covered for 12 minutes or till the rice is done.Stir gently a couple of times in between.

It is good on its own, but you can also serve it with a raita or yogurt / pappad or chips
