I don’t know what it is called but I call it ‘No grind tomato onion chutney’- another easy chutney.


You need:
Tomato -4 finely chopped
Onion-2 finely chopped
Curry leaves a few
Coriander leaves to garnish
Red chillies 2
Chilli powder -1 tsp
Salt to taste
Seasoning
Mustard-1 teaspoon
Urad dhal-1 teaspoon
Gram dhal-1 teaspoon
Oil-1 tablespoon
1.Heat oil in a kadai and add the seasoning , red chillies,curry leaves.
2.When it splutters and dal turns brown,add onion and saute till golden brown.
3.Now add tomato and saute till it turns a little mushy.Add a little water if required.
4.Add salt and chilli powder and cook for 2 minutes.
5.Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with Plain/Masal dosa/Wheat dosa/iddli/Chapathi.

  1. Thats a very time saving idea of a chutney:) I loved the taste when I prepare this , but I had to grind it, never tried it without grinding, yours looks very tasty ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Pj when you use these dhalls, can you pls tell us the tamil names for it also. people like me with less english knowledge and who have jus started cookin find it hard to get the right dhall since there are lot variety of them. Appreciate your effort though!!
